EUGENE, Ore. -- Sources have confirmed to KATU's Eugene sister station that University of Oregon's head basketball coach, Ernie Kent, has already been fired.

According to the source, Kent's dismissal takes effect after the basketball team has finished its season, whenever that may be.

....

Kent is 233 to 172 in 13 seasons with the Ducks. He also has taken Oregon to five NCAA tournament appearances, making it to the Elite Eight twice.

He was finger banging the prom queen and you are satisfied with a peck on the cheek.

hth

Thought I read on here where Romar had Final Four caliber talent this year ...

Compare Romar's salary with coaches who make a million plus ... then calculate cost per win and get back to me.

Fag.

Some people think what is written here is an accurate reflection of reality.

Not the case.

And I never said I was content with Romar's achievements. I'm just not topdawgfuckingstupid enough to think he's worse than Kent.

Amazing that you continue to sniff dirty jockstraps and think it is progress ...

Well actually not amazing ...

I think we both agree that the over paid coach you jerk off over has better than bubble team talent. But you keep thinking that Sweet 16's and X amount of tourneys in X amount of years is top shelf.

Not only are you a fag ... your a dumb fuck fag at that.

Time to blow up this piece of idiocy once and for all. Romar is significantly better than Kent in almost every metric possible.

Read it and weep bitches. And go TCU.

Conference Record: In 13 years in the Pac10, Kent's conference record is 102-114 (0.472). In 8 years in the Pac10, Romar's conference record is 84-60 (0.583).

Tournament Appearances: Assuming neither of them make it this year (a much safer assumption for Kent than for Romar) Kent has been to the NCAA 5 times in 13 tries (38.4%). Romar has been to the NCAA 4 times in 8 tries (50%).

Conference Finishes: Both have won the conference once. Romar has finished second three times, and third once, making 62.5% of his seasons top 3 in the conference. Kent has never finished second. He finished third once and tied for third once, making 23% of his seasons top 3 in the conference.

Wins in a Season (conference upside): Kent has won 14 games once, 13 games once, 11 games once and 10 games once. Romar has won 14 games twice, 13 games once, 12 games once, and 11 games once. In five fewer tries Romar has more 14 win seasons, more 13+ win seasons, more 12+ win seasons, and more 11+ win seasons.

Head to head: In the eight seasons that they've coached in the Pac10 together they've met 17 times (twice a year, plus in the 2006 P10 tournament). In those matchups, Romar has won 11, Kent has won 6.

Tournament Success: This is the only thing Kent has on Romar, but even it is much less impressive than the talking points make it sound. Kent's record in the NCAA tournament is 6-5 (.545). Romar's record in the NCAA tournament is 5-4 (.555). Kent's best win was over the six seed Texas in 2002. Romar's best win was over the number four seed Illinois.

Kent's gone further in the tournament than Romar has. If people want to think they have the right to cling to that as evidence that Kent is better than Romar, or that RomarIsKent, go right ahead. If they want to use their brains, they will see that Romar is a significantly better coach than Kent.

disclaimer for topdawgfuckingstupid: please note that this is in no way a claim that Romar is a great coach, that he is above criticism, that he has done a great job with this year's team or any other statement other than that Romar kicks Kent's ass. thank you for your reading comprehension.

Romar would have to win less than 4 conference games a season for the next five years just to match Ernie's 13 year record in the Pac10.

Saying Romar is slightly better than Kent is like saying Doba was slightly better than Ty. Doba was >>>>>>>>>>>> Ty, and Romar is >>>>>>>>>>>>> Kent.

I sit corrected. Romar is somewhat better than Kent, repeated chokes in the Big Dance be damned.

So getting into the tourney from the WCC = getting into the tourney from the Pac10?

Actually, it's generally tougher to get there from the WCC. 1/8 chance in the WCC vs. 4/10 or 5/10 chance in the Pac10 in a typical year.

2007: Oregon beat #14 seed, #11 seed, #7 seed, lose to #1 seed
2002: Oregon beat #15 seed, #7 seed, #6 seed, lose to #1 seed

Every other tourney appearances was a 1st round loss. So that is zero wins out performing their seed. Romar has one, 2006 when #5 Washington knocked off #4 Illinois.

Nobody? The PX is accustomed to getting four, five, even six at-large bids. This year, it might get none. That auto-bid matters this year.

Reaching the Elite 8 as a 3 seed is outperforming your seed.

You are confusing "outperforming your seed" with "beating a higher seed".

#1s are seeded to reach the Final Four
#2s are seeded to reach the Elite 8

True, but Kent made it to the Elite 8 with teams not as good as the S16 team that Romar had with BRoy. Although with Mike Jensen as your starting center, you're pretty much fucked. We never should've lost that UConn game. Horrible late game management and failure to tell Mike Jensen to come nowhere near anybody driving to the hole.

Agreed, and agreed. That collapse against UConn was disasterous on numerous fronts. That was also the first night I ever saw Lemon Party (thanks Whiskey!).

Romar never should have blown that one.

It should be noted, thought, that Ernie's never beaten a team in the tourney nearly as good as that UConn team, or the Louisville team we lost to the year before.

Here is a preliminary list of replacements for Ernesto:

Dave Bliss, built New Mexico into a power
Tim Floyd, former NBA coach with strong ties to the Duck's main hoops recruiting base in the midwest
P.J. Carlesimo, former Blazers coach who led Seton Hall to NCAA championship game
Jerry Green, set the table for Bruce Pearl at Tennessee
Dan Monson, son of Don and the easier hire of the "dynasty" Gonzaga coaches
Jan van Breda Kolff, Had Pepperdine winning at a .734% clip up until 2001

disagree

For one, Kent's record is not good.

For two, Kent's given them off the court reasons to fire him, which as we all know is UW's favorite reason to shitcan a coach.

If Kent coached at UW he would have been fired years ago.

Kent is black and Husky fans still miss Marv Harshman who had a worse record than Ernie. Romar could miss the tourney for 5 years and the same fucktards would be telling you how bad Husky basketball was before he got here and how Romar did this and that and should never be fired.

Bob Bender fucked everything with two tits and a pussy and that isn't why he got fired.

Sure there would be fucktards saying that. But if Romar misses the tourney for 5 straight years, he's getting fired, fucktards defending or not.

And if Ty goes 11-25 there is no way he gets year #4.

Look, with Cal getting serious about basketball you can't expect Romar to not go 5 years without a tourney bid
The big difference here
March 09, 2010 09:56AM
Is that some morons believe a football coach deserves or needs four or five years to establish his system. Obviously, those people are wrong, but they exist, and apparently have some power.

Nobody, anywhere, is arguing that a basketball coach needs 13 years to get his own players or establish his sytem.

I see the point you're trying to make, but you're way off base.
Re: The big difference here
March 09, 2010 10:31AM
The fact that you so vehemently have Romar's dick down your throat shows that Race is close to the truth. This fanbase, you included, feel the need to defend the indefensible. Whether he's truly "Kent" or not, is beside the point. If he's better, its not by much. The state of Washington has a lot more basketball talent than Oregon and it took Kent a little longer to get things going. Its worth noting that your, Ernie's 5 tournies to Romar's 4 is also a bit misleading, considering Ernie's also had 4 tournies in Romar's 8 year timespan. Its just that he only had 1 before that.

The bottom line is that Kent is going to be sipping margaritas next year and Oregon will throw lots of money at a replacement.

So, where does that leave Romar in the Pac-10 hierarchy?

Definitely Worse than:
Howland
Sendek
Montgomery
Miller
New Oregon Coach

Definitely Better than?
Dawkins? maybe.

Romar is Kent, not because he necessarily gets the exact same results, but because he does the exact same thing, which is to toss his recruits out there, without any clue of how to game plan. And his results are much closer that doogs like you want to believe.

You are the AuburnDoog of basketball.

A lot of us are here because we believe this is a war for Husky Football. That scum bag Harvey is actively fighting against our interests.

For a MathWizz, your research sucks.

Ernesto has 3 tourney appearances in the Romar at UW era.

Simple fact.

Comparing Romar to TW is retarded. One built a program, the other destroyed a program.

Comparing Romar to Kent is fucking stupid. To say Herb Sendek, who is 4 and fucking 8 vs. Romar's Huskies, is definitely better than Romar is fucking stupid. Do the fucking math!
Re: The big difference here
March 09, 2010 01:27PM
Moor maff:

Romar's Huskies vs.:

Mike Motgomery: 3-6
Lute Olson: 6-6
Ben Howland: 8-7
Ernie Kent: 10-6
Dick Bennett: 4-2
Herb Sendeck: 8-4
Ken Bone: 2-0
Craig Robinson: 4-0
Poont of clarification
March 09, 2010 01:31PM
It's actually 11-6 vs Ernesto, and 3-0 vs Bone, though I agree the pre-WSU Bone shouldn't count.
Re: Poont of clarification
March 09, 2010 01:33PM
All I know is I watched Ernesto and his pukey Ducks run the Huskies into the ground in Hec Ed this year. Only Pac-10 game I went too, and I was thoroughly disappointed.

TW beat Chris Pedersen once.

but it was when I travelled 300 fucking miles to watch that fucking game. I was a bit pissed to see us get ass-raped on our home court to an inferior team like the Ducks, while we were favorites to win the PAC-10.

That shit shouldn't happen, but I guess 9/11 shouldn't have happened either....

To say that Mike Montgomery, who is 1-3 vs Craig Robinson is definitely better than Robinson is fucking stupid.

The idea that head to head is what determines who is a good coach is as ridiculous as saying that Jerimiah Mastoli is a better QB than Locker based on head to head results, or that Willingham was a better coach than Jeff Tedford after beating him.

Sendek is a better coach than Romar. Honestly the fact that we even have people on here defending Romar as a good coach speaks volumes about how fucktarded the fanbase is. Miss out on the tournament 3 out of 4 years and the fans still slobber your cock.

Grow a pair, then drain them in your fucking mouth, douchebag.

Solid effort right there
What about this???
March 09, 2010 01:38PM
Romar didn't get one big time recruit this year from the Pacific Northwest.

Terrance Jones is heading to Kentucky; Josh Smith is going to UCLA; Even Kanter from Haiti or whatever backed the fuck out...

What the fuck did we get?????
One out of three ain't bad, I guess.

This is the same guy who only went to one game (Oregon) and is basing his entire assessment of the basketball program on that one game. Now he's a recruiting expert too. Why are you crying over Josh "Precious" Smith? That dude is F3 fat. Jones and Kanter have yet to decide. I like to judge a recruiting class before signing day. That's what I like to do. Good one Mike HonchoFS.

How is Sendek a better coach than Romar? I must have missed what he's actually accomplished...aside from winning the MAC once in 1995 and making the Sweet 16 once with NC State.

Do the fucking math, dipshit. Romar is a good coach, THAT IS A FACT. Great coach, no, but that can be easily rectified with an astute assistant. Do the fucking math and you will see Romar is good and the best we fucking can get right now since we need a fucking football stadium! You cock sucking Romar haters need to take the cocks out of your mouth, ass, and wipe that semen out of your eyes, because you are so far fucking off base with your assessments. Romar > Sendek. Do the fucking math. It is dipshits like you that got us in the Ty mess. You stop looking at the math, facts, & start saying stupid emotional shit to defend your opinion. You can get back to sucking off Mike Bellotti.
