if you wish to continue to use that parameter to describe randle, please use the wording that he is the best player on the team with the best record.

Cal won the Pac-10, has a higher rpi and a higher strength of schedule than Washington. So, yes, Randle is the best player on the best team. You may think Washington is a better team than Cal, but the numbers don't bear it out for the period that's used to determine the POY. Quite frankly, the POY could have gone to any of Randle, Pondexter and Fields and it would have been appropriate (and fans of the other 2 schools would be upset).

Legitimate question about EdwinUW
Not trying to flame here, but this is my first visit to this forum and I was reading a few posts. This EdwinUW poster seems like an interesting fellow. Serious question for other posters on this board; how is this guy seen by the rest of the Dawgman community? Is he taken seriously? Or is it just accepted by everyone that he's sort of the village idiot.

Agreed, Edwin's true expertise is the tournament selection process. Definitely knows his stuff there. If he would limit his comments to that specific arena, all would be well. Unfortunately he also thinks he knows a lot more about the game of basketball than folks here who have played and/or coached at a much higher level.

that was in direct response to someone who said we couldn't be the best team because we finished 3rd. then immediately contended that roy won POY as the best player on the best team when we didn't win the conference. these are the people i should bother with?

Thanks for everyone's feedback, very interesting. I guess every forum has a poster like EdwinUW, and that's what makes visiting forums kinda fun, cause you get all sorts of different personalities.

EdwinUW definitely comes across as the "know it all" type. He may know what he's talking about and he may be right some of the time, but he also seems like the type who won't even listen to any other opinion besides his own.

for instance, his statement that UW has been the best team in the conference since February could be a true statement. however, you look kinda foolish when you adamantly and stubbornly stand behind that statement without even considering any other opinions; especially when all conventional wisdom (not to mention the numbers) point to the contrary.

i guess i can appreciate someone having strong opinions, but you gotta have something to back it up with. just making blanket statements isn't all that helpful or insightful.
